The Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety on Dec. 11 approved a $17,500 allocation from the second-district gaming fund to commission a traffic study for a proposed Davies Industrial Coatings facility at 1175 State Street.
Engineering staff said Davies Industrial Coatings is considering the property west of the Columbia bridge and that the city recommended a study because the project would convert a portion of State Street from one-way to two-way and alter an intersection there. "Davies Industrial Coatings is looking at a property at 1175 State," the presenter said, adding that Commonwealth Engineers had been selected to perform the task order for the study.
Board members heard that Councilman Salinas offered second-district gaming funds to pay for the study. Speaker 3 moved to approve the task order and funding, the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: The study will assess traffic impacts of converting the far east end of State Street to two-way traffic and any intersection changes tied to the proposed development. Results could affect design, required mitigation and future permitting.
What happens next: Commonwealth Engineers will proceed under the approved task order to complete the traffic study; staff did not state a delivery date for the final report.
