Summary
Jenks Police Chief updated council on a Dec. 7 homicide: an arrest first charged as manslaughter has been upgraded to first-degree homicide and the suspect failed to appear at a court date and is being sought; city manager reported sales and use tax receipts increased roughly 10% year-over-year for the month and 14% year-to-date.
Jenks Police Chief Jackson updated the council on a homicide that occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 7. The suspect was arrested and initially charged with manslaughter; after further investigation charges were upgraded to first-degree homicide. Chief Jackson said the suspect failed to appear at a recent court date and law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force and the suspect’s bail bondsman, were searching for him.
Chief Jackson said the victim was not from Jenks and described her as an “up-and-coming” actress in the local theatrical community. The chief called the act “senseless” and said investigators hope to bring the suspect back to face the charges and provide justice for the victim and her family.
Separately, city management reported municipal revenues: December sales tax receipts were about 6% higher than the same month last year, use tax receipts were about 25% higher, and combined sales and use tax for the month were roughly 10% higher than last year. Through the first six months of the fiscal year, sales and use tax collections are 14% higher than the same period last year.
What happens next: Police continue to seek the suspect; city staff will continue regular revenue reporting to council.
