Des Moines County supervisors approve routine claims, roadway maintenance deal and personnel actions

At its Dec. 9, 2025 meeting the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors approved routine administrative items and several personnel actions.
The board voted to approve a payroll reimbursement claim in the amount of $1,057.88. Supervisors then approved a roadway maintenance agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation that will have the county plow and maintain approximately 2.5 miles of former Highway 61 segments pending a property transfer; the DOT will pay the county $21,092.40 for the service.
The board also designated official county newspapers for 2026, accepting applications from Media Analyst News, The Hawkeye and the Burlington Beacon/Des Moines County News.
Personnel actions approved included public‑health time adjustments (Priscilla Frager, LPN — three hours unpaid on Dec. 1, 2025), step increases for correctional center staff (Keaton Oshak’s salary adjustment noted) and a sheriff’s‑office anniversary step increase for Eric Grama. The board also granted unpaid leave (8.25 hours) for correctional officer Mike Hayes. Votes were recorded by roll call; supervisor responses during votes were recorded in the meeting transcript.
These approvals were made during the regular session before the board opened a lengthy public‑comment and work session on the proposed energy siting ordinance.
