Hayward honors Acting Fire Chief Eric Volmer ahead of his Dec. 30 retirement

The mayor presented a plaque and said the council is grateful for Volmer’s service and wished him well.
In brief remarks Volmer thanked his family, colleagues, and the Hayward Fire Department and urged recruits and community partners to continue the work. "I love you all," he said to firefighting colleagues during his remarks. Council introduced Chief Ryan Hamre as the new fire chief and applauded Volmer’s efforts to prepare the department for the transition.
