Scurry County to continue BizProtect IT services, will seek bids for internet and phone

Scurry County commissioners approved continuing an existing managed-services agreement with BizProtect to provide IT support for county operations and the sheriff's office and decided to solicit bids for combined internet and phone services.
County staff presented a vendor letter and said the contract is a renewal; monthly charges have not changed but some after-hours hourly support pricing may be adjusted. Speaker 7 described BizProtect's recent assistance: "They assisted Jeremy significantly in getting us into compliance on all the stuff IT related," noting the vendor had provided multiple hours of training and remote support during a large audit.
A motion to continue IT services with BizProtect as presented was made and seconded during the meeting. Commissioners also agreed to go out for bids on internet and phone services together; staff noted that while there could be an Optimum buyout of roughly $100,000, projected savings from a new provider could exceed that amount over time. The court discussed consolidating telecom bills under one provider to reduce recurring costs.
On procurement for road- and facility-related items (fuel, gravel and hauling), the court also voted to send most items out for bid while excluding a separate seal-coating contract for additional discussion.
Staff said contract fine points and after-hours pricing would be followed up and that the county attorney had reviewed contract language. The court's action keeps vendor support in place while opening competitive bidding processes for telecom and several material and services contracts.
