Paducah commission approves up to $200,000 for homeless shelter project

The Paducah City Commission voted unanimously Nov. 25 to authorize up to $200,000 in city funding to the Paducah Cooperative Ministry for an emergency shelter.
City Manager Jay Maynard told commissioners the first $100,000 would be delivered no later than April 1, 2026, and the final $100,000 would be disbursed after construction benchmarks and completion criteria are met. Maynard said the award is separate from a prior $50,000 award tied to operations and is intended to support construction needs.
The mayor and commissioners praised PCM’s work and noted the city and county had coordinated on related homelessness funding. No alternate funding schedule was proposed; commissioners said they saw the allocation as an example of intergovernmental cooperation to address a local shelter need.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the municipal order by roll call. The vote recorded Aye from Commissioner Henderson, Commissioner Smith, Commissioner Thomas, Commissioner Wilson and Mayor Bray.
Staff said they would return with documents for the mayor’s signature and with the schedule for disbursement and benchmarks. No conditions beyond the construction benchmarks and standard execution documents were announced.
