The Torrington City Council approved a special event permit and waived the fee for Go Goshen’s Christmas parade set for Dec. 5, 2025, permitting a Main Street closure between 19th and 25th avenues from 5 to 7 p.m.
Police Chief Matt Johnson told the council the parade is well attended, that the city will begin the Main Street closure at 5 p.m. after businesses close, and that organizers plan the same safety approach used in prior years. “This has been a safe event in the past, and we’re utilizing the same game plan that we have in the past for a good result,” Chief Johnson said.
Leanne Mattis, speaking for Go Goshen, said the parade draws a large community turnout and that Santa Claus will again lead the procession. “Our community members really look forward to this event each year,” Mattis said, and thanked the Torrington Police Department, the streets department and the fire department for their assistance.
Councilman Deal moved to approve the permit and waive fees; Councilman Kelly seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote with no council members voting nay. The council directed staff to notify affected businesses and to coordinate signage, and Chief Johnson noted staff will prepare a cost breakdown if council wishes to review allocations for future parades.
The permit authorizes the closure and waivers for Dec. 5; organizers and city staff will coordinate final traffic and safety details in the days before the event.
