VAC hears CIP public-art updates, bollard program and upcoming artist call
Summary
Staff updated the VAC on several CIP installations (Evelyn Park April 2026; Village Akita Park May 2026), the bollard artist program (five artist-painted sites moving forward) and said a new call for artists will publish Monday, Dec. 15.
At the same meeting the committee also received routine project updates on other city public-art work and administrative items.
Staff reported the Butterfly Reflect installation at Evelyn Park is scheduled for fabrication and installation in April 2026, and the Village Akita Park artwork is expected to be installed in May 2026. Brinkstorpe Park work is moving through insurance and procurement steps and referenced recent changes related to Senate Bill 456, and Shoreline Park timelines remain delayed while an artist attends to a personal emergency.
On a smaller placemaking program, staff said five of six planned artist-painted bollard locations will proceed and that city staff will promote artist painting events timed with large sporting events next year. Staff told the VAC the next call for artists will be published to the call-for-entry website on Monday, Dec. 15, and that one alternate artist (Robin Bernstein) is scheduled to install at the Center for Performing Arts next week.
The VAC will receive a further update in February when staff resumes monthly meetings following the holiday schedule.
