Andover council approves short-term rental permit for detached unit at 505 N. Glendevon

The Andover City Council on Dec. 9 approved a special-use permit to allow short-term rentals at a detached accessory unit at 505 N. Glendevon Road in an SF-2 district. The planning commission had recommended approval.
Planning staff said the proposal fits existing special-use standards and noted the unit would be subject to the normal building-code and fire-code requirements (smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and a certificate of occupancy when built). The council asked whether the city performs routine inspections of short-term rentals; staff said the city does not have a dedicated inspection schedule for short-term rentals but building and fire codes apply and the fire department performs code inspections as required.
Councilmember Tim Berry and others noted that platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO have listing requirements and that the city wants owners to follow the established permitting path. After discussion the council accepted the planning commission recommendation and the motion to approve the special-use permit passed 5-0.
Appeals: parties aggrieved by the council's final decision have 30 days to appeal to district court.
