Parks board approves up to $4,000 matching grant for Capital City Disc Golf Club

Keizer — The Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Dec. 9 approved a parks matching grant, not to exceed $4,000, to help the Capital City Disc Golf Club install a second set of baskets and complete path and erosion work at Keizer Rapids Disc Golf Course.

Patrick Erickson, secretary of the Capital City Disc Golf Club, told the board volunteers had made extensive course improvements over the last 18 months, including gravel and bark on paths, signage and invasive‑species cleanup. He presented usage figures drawn from the uDisc app: 31,000 rounds recorded on uDisc, roughly 4,000 unique uDisc users and about 63,000 recreational hours recorded. Erickson said uDisc data represents roughly 25–30% of actual play, indicating total rounds may be higher than the app count.

Erickson said the full estimated project value was about $11,320, with equipment (the additional baskets) carrying an estimated cost of about $7,500 and other expenses (path work, markers) filling out the balance; volunteer labor provides substantial additional value. Board members asked about coordination with parks staff and neighbors; the presenter and staff said they have been working with Parks Manager Robert Johnson to improve safety and communication around volunteer work parties.

Board member Tanya moved to approve the parks matching grant; the chair offered a friendly amendment to cap the board contribution ‘‘not to exceed $4,000,’’ which the applicant accepted. The amended motion passed unanimously (motion passed with four absent). The board asked the group to coordinate future work parties with staff before work begins.
