External auditor gives ISD 152 an unmodified opinion; board approves FY2025 audit

An external auditor presenting to the Independent School District 152 school board on Dec. 15 said the district’s fiscal year 2025 financial statements received an unmodified (clean) opinion and that the single audit raised no findings.
Mason Orstedt, an auditor who identified himself and his Fargo office affiliation, summarized the audit and the firm’s risk-based testing approach. “Ultimately, the district got what we call a clean opinion,” Orstedt said, adding that the firm found routine issues commonly reported in school audits — preparation of financial statements, segregation of duties and proposed adjusting journal entries — but nothing the firm considered to be of material concern.
Orstedt described work on federal-award programs (single-audit testing of Title I and child nutrition) and reported no findings in that area this year. He also reviewed implementation of GASB 101 (compensated-absence reporting) and noted the district’s different fund balances, including food service, community service and the OPEB trust.
After the presentation and brief questions from board members, Board member Cassidy moved to approve the FY2025 audit report draft as presented by the auditor firm. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
What this means: The unmodified opinion indicates auditors found the financial statements free from material misstatement under generally accepted accounting principles; the board will proceed with routine post-audit filing and administrative follow-up on the nonmaterial findings described by the auditor.
