Committee recommends Baker Tilly to continue as city auditor after RFP; some alderpersons expressed concern

The Muskego City Finance Committee on Dec. 16 recommended Baker Tilly be retained as the city’s auditor for 2026–27 and will forward the recommendation to the common council.
Staff said they issued an RFP to about five firms and received seven responses posted on the city website. The three lowest bids were Baker Tilly, Baumann & Associates, and Hawkins Ash. Staff recommended Baker Tilly despite a slightly higher bid because of the firm’s long history with the city and the operational burden of switching auditors; staff noted the city has used Baker Tilly for about 15 years.
An alderperson expressed reservations about recent interactions and correspondence with Baker Tilly, referencing emails related to Hillandale and saying they did not feel comfortable with the firm’s service. In response, staff said Baker Tilly representatives "were always willing to come back" and that availability depended on time and cost.
The committee recommended the award to the council; members noted the council could pull the item for separate consideration.
