Montebello staff announce golf winter hours, holiday events, toy drive and youth program registrations

During staff communications at the Nov. 20 meeting, Montebello Parks and Recreation staff announced seasonal operating changes, promotions and community events for late 2025 and early 2026.
Staff said night golf is now available from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, with weekday green fees at $18 and weekend fees at $23. A family foursome special was described as $25 for the 6-hole short course (which plays as nine holes at night). Staff also promoted a play-and-replay 18-hole special with cart for $55 Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., and noted Thanksgiving and Black Friday specials ($46 riding, $36 walking); the last tee time on Thanksgiving is at noon.
Assistant Director Veronica Ramirez presented the Winter Wonderland and tree-lighting ceremony scheduled Saturday, Dec. 6 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the tree lighting at 7:00 p.m. Ramirez said Santa will arrive by fire truck from the Montebello Fire Department, and the event will include live entertainment, a holiday market, snow slides, a returning ice rink and photos with Santa. Free parking and shuttle service will be offered from Chet Holifield Park and Montebello Intermediate from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Ramirez also announced a holiday toy drive accepting new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 12 at multiple locations including City Hall, recreation offices and police and fire stations; donations will be distributed as part of an event at City Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m. She invited commissioners to participate in judging a holiday home decorating contest on Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Youth program details: youth basketball registration is open for ages 4–15 (including a tiny tots division for 3-year-olds); staff said divisions are roughly 50% full and the cost is $70 per participant (uniform and end-of-season award included), with practices beginning the week of Jan. 5 after parent meetings and assessments. Winter camp registration opens Dec. 1; the camp runs Dec. 22 through Jan. 9 in three one-week sessions for children ages 5–14, cost $100 per participant and includes one field trip per session and daily snacks. Ramirez said programs require individual sign-ups at the recreation office or online.
Staff invited questions; commissioners had none and then offered holiday wishes and congratulations to staff on the recently secured playground grant.
