The council followed the selection procedure explained in California Government Code section 36801 and Rosenberg's rules of parliamentary procedure, which the city clerk summarized before nominations. The clerk also reminded the council that the mayor and vice mayor serve one-year terms and that votes are taken by roll call.
After the votes, the newly selected mayor offered brief remarks thanking colleagues for their confidence and emphasizing continuity, consensus-building, and public participation as priorities for the coming year.
