Staff warns of surge in CE applications for Nov. 7 PEC meeting after 2023 regulation change

SACRAMENTO — Board staff alerted the Respiratory Care Board of California’s Practice and Education Committee on Aug. 1 that the next committee meeting, scheduled for Nov. 7, 2025, is expected to include a substantially larger number of continuing-education course applications.
Mister Pruden told the committee, “I do think we're going to have a substantially higher number of courses to review at that meeting than we had at this meeting,” and noted the increase may be related to the 2023 regulation change that lengthened the period for which course approvals are valid. He said the board should anticipate a “robust amount of courses to review” and plan staff time and meeting structure accordingly.
Committee members acknowledged the warning and did not propose additional agenda items at the Aug. 1 meeting. The committee confirmed its next board meeting is Oct. 17 and reiterated the PEC meeting date of Nov. 7, 2025.
Board staff and committee members did not receive any public comment on the scheduling note during the meeting.
