Practice and Education Committee approves May minutes and batch of continuing-education courses; staff fixes clerical hours error

SACRAMENTO — The Respiratory Care Board of California’s Practice and Education Committee on Aug. 1 approved the May 2, 2025 meeting minutes and a batch of continuing-education (CE) course approvals after brief procedural review and no public comment.
An unidentified committee member moved to approve the minutes, saying, “I’ll move to approve the minutes from the May 2025 practice and education committee meeting.” The motion was seconded and, in a roll-call vote, Doctor Bragg, Doctor Pruett and Doctor Wong each voted aye and the motion passed.
The committee then considered a group of CE course approval requests filed under Title 16, section 1536. Chair Doctor Wong proposed processing multiple items in sections to speed review; staff and committee members agreed to batch straightforward requests and pull any course that needed more discussion.
Committee members flagged a clerical discrepancy in item 4f1, an application from the Macula and Retina Institute titled “Diagnostic Imaging for Common Retinal Diseases.” The worksheet attached to the course materials listed 0.67 hours for ocular disease, while the submitted application and course schedule indicated two hours of content. A staff member stated, “I think the course is a 2 hour course,” and committee members agreed the worksheet likely contained a clerical error and that staff could treat the worksheet as such for approval purposes.
After opening the floor for public comment on the grouped CE approvals and receiving none, the committee took a roll-call vote to approve items 4a1 through 4I1; Doctor Bragg, Doctor Pruett and Doctor Wong each voted aye and the motion passed.
The committee later considered and approved item 5a1 (category placement for a separate course). One member noted a minor disagreement over the most appropriate category but agreed the application met the requirements for the category it had requested; the motion passed by roll call.
The meeting closed after a brief announcements section and confirmation of the next meeting schedule.
