The Nov. 18 meeting of Academy School District 20 opened with student presentations and recognitions. Members of the Rampart Regiment marching band and their directors described the program’s recent successes—winning a 4A state championship with a score of 88.25 and back‑to‑back titles—and thanked staff, volunteers and boosters.
David Altman, assistant director of bands at Rampart, praised the students and staff for their dedication and said the program’s show, "Stardust," celebrates community and connection. Rampart students and leaders noted the partnership with UCCS for the Rampart Early College Academy (RECA), which allows seniors to earn more than 30 college credits taught by district teachers and supported through AVID.
Da Vinci Academy principal Sheehan Freeman Todd and third‑grade students then led the Pledge of Allegiance and demonstrated arts‑integration learning examples—gallery hours, movement and drama tied to science standards—and explained how the arts support academic standards and critical thinking.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students and invited them to stay for photos after the meeting.
