Commission discusses ADU ordinance update and notes commissioner resignation

During the meeting staff announced that Commissioner Waddy has resigned from the Planning & Zoning Commission and the city is accepting applications for a replacement. Planning manager Leslie Mendez said the commission is preparing to lead an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) ordinance update in the spring to conform to new state law; one discretionary change under consideration is permitting the sale of ADUs to encourage additional housing options.
Mendez also proposed a study session to provide clearer guidance on landscape plans and exceptional design‑review expectations, citing recurring uncertainty about the level of detail applicants should provide. The commission noted the next meeting will be Jan. 28 (moved from Jan. 7) because of holiday scheduling and staff availability. Chair adjourned the meeting and wished commissioners happy holidays.
