The Albany County Legislature confirmed two executive appointments and approved a local law limiting sale and possession of flare guns during its Dec. 8 session.
After taking resolutions 527 and 528 out of order, the legislature confirmed Shannon Koffel as Commissioner of the Department of Human Resources (Resolution 527) and Jordan Huvan as Public Defender (Resolution 528); both passed by voice votes recorded as 'Aye.' Chair Joanne Cunningham invited the appointees forward for recognition.
Later in the meeting the clerk read Local Law J, an amendment to chapter 161 of the Albany County Code placing restrictions on the sale and possession of flare guns. The long roll call recorded that the local law was approved unanimously. The chair noted a corrected version of the local law had been uploaded to the county’s meeting platform (Granicus) prior to the vote.
Procedural motions included tabling resolution 501 to the next meeting; other items were similarly tabled on request. The legislature also held public hearings on proposed local law T (minimum passing distance for motor vehicles) and local law L (an affordable housing initiatives plan), which were read and proceeded through votes as noted on the agenda.
Ending: The session included confirmations of two senior county positions and the unanimous approval of Local Law J; several other hearings and resolutions moved forward or were tabled for subsequent meetings.
