The Public Works Committee voted Nov. 18 to authorize capital improvements at the Shaker Heritage Site to install restrooms in the site's 1915 Barn, the site's executive director told legislators.
Johanna, the executive director for the Shaker Heritage Site, said the work would support facility rentals and public programming and that the project would be pursued "pursuant to the terms of our lease with Albany County." She told the committee there is "no cost to Albany County" for the work and estimated total project costs "probably somewhere in the range of 380,000, including the soft costs," adding that about "320" of that amount has been raised or pledged. She said the site rents a trailer of restrooms for current events and that the primary historic meeting house (1848) remains the site's primary facility.
A legislator moved to approve the authorization, a second was recorded, and the committee approved the request by voice vote.
Johanna said more precise cost information will be available after the site receives bids in about two weeks; the transcript did not include a final contract or construction schedule.
