Georgia Piedmont Technical College to open transportation training center Jan. 7; county provided funding support

Dr. Holston, president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College, told the DeKalb County Operations Committee that the college will cut the ribbon on a 24,000-square-foot Regional Transportation Training Center on Jan. 7 and invited commissioners to attend.
Holston said the project cost approximately $12 million in total and that DeKalb County supported the project "to the tune of about $4,000,000." He described the center as the largest facility of its kind on the East Coast, said it will train truck and bus drivers, diesel technicians and civil engineering technicians, and noted the college trains most MARTA bus drivers. Holston also said the college’s work will be featured in a PBS documentary.
Commissioners and partner representatives praised the apprenticeship partnership that feeds technicians into county operations and private employers; fleet and employer partners said they regularly hire graduates from Georgia Piedmont programs.
What’s next: The college will host a public ribbon-cutting on Jan. 7; county staff said they will share the event information with constituents.
