Neighbor raises flooding and roadway-safety concerns about Redbird Ridge development; county staff says planning authority lies with the city

A resident who said she represents the Mount Miller family and neighboring property owners told the Denton County Commissioners Court the Redbird Ridge development has altered historic drainage and removed erosion-control features, redirecting stormwater onto adjacent private property and public roads.

The speaker said portions of the project sit on a natural high point and that grading and cover placement already have redirected water, which she said can lead to flooding, erosion and roadway failures. She also raised concerns about a public street that terminates without a proper turnaround, saying vehicles would be forced to reverse onto private drives and that the condition poses a safety risk to children walking and bicycling.

When asked by the court whether the property lies inside the City of Denton, the speaker identified herself as representing a family on Redbird Ridge; a county participant (speaker 11) responded that planning authority is with the city for platting, inspection review and permitting, and the chair said because the item was not on the agenda the court could not take action but that staff (Steven) would follow up and that the resident should submit a formal proposal to the court.

The concern as stated by the resident remains unresolved in the court record: the court acknowledged the complaint, clarified jurisdictional limits and committed to staff follow-up rather than taking immediate enforcement action. The resident additionally said she would contact Commissioner Diane Edmondson about the matter.
