The NEVADA R-V School District Board of Education voted to award the library/high-school roof replacement to Central States Roofing and to include a payment/performance bond in the contract.
Speaker 4 presented two bids and recommended Central States Roofing as the low bidder, stating the firm’s figure in the board packet (reported in the transcript as $74,900) and recommending a bond because of previous contractor bankruptcies. Speaker 4 described the bond: "It's a performance bond. So if they fail to perform and finish the project, we go back on their insurance and use that money to finish the project." The board discussed the bond and asked that the addendum be included in the motion.
Speaker 5 moved to approve the Central States Roofing bid and Speaker 3 seconded the motion. The board approved the contract by voice vote with ayes recorded, and Speaker 4 confirmed the bond requirement would be added to the contract.
The board’s facilities director also outlined the district’s broader roofing needs, saying much of the district’s stock is over 20 years old and that additional phases will likely be necessary in future years. The director estimated the district faces roughly $1,000,000 of roofing work over time as other sections age.
Next steps: the district will finalize contract language that includes the payment/performance bond and proceed with scheduling the work in the coming summer months.
