Superintendent described a new five-year strategic planning process built from focus-group input and provided a construction update on a new school: student-wing finishes, operational gym HVAC, acclimating wood flooring and a heavy-duty asphalt bus lot.
The superintendent told the Anson County Board of Education on Dec. 11 that the district is developing a new strategic plan built from December focus groups with students, staff, families and community partners. He said the goal is an actionable plan with specific, measurable and time-bound objectives that the board can enact and sustain over roughly a five-year horizon.
“Anson County Schools is developing a new strategic plan to help guide our work, strengthen our schools, and ensure our students are prepared for success in education, careers, and life,” the superintendent said. The focus groups were convened to provide candid feedback and to inform measurable goals rather than produce a “slick” document that only looks good on paper.
The board also received an update on construction at the new school. The superintendent said two student wings are nearly complete with operational HVAC, floor tile, cabinets and whiteboards installed; the gym HVAC is now operational, and the wood flooring for the gym is being acclimated prior to installation. He added the back bus lot grading was revised to a heavy-duty asphalt design to accommodate buses, garbage trucks and delivery vehicles.
Board members raised operational questions tied to the new school’s opening next August, including how buses and cars will be routed during arrival and dismissal and whether safe sidewalks or designated walkways for students will be provided. The superintendent and staff described preliminary planning and referred some specifics to the project lead (Dr. Stegall) and to prior discussions with planners. Board members noted sightline concerns and discussed options for sidewalk placement to maximize visibility for staff supervising traffic.
The update closed with the board approving consent items and moving on to new business; construction work and strategic-plan development will continue through planning and implementation phases.
