Councilmember Nygaard asked staff to prepare a discussion item for the Dec. 16 regular meeting proposing that current 2025 appointments to council committees and regional multi-agency bodies remain in place until the council appoints representatives for 2026, citing continuity concerns for committee meetings scheduled in early January.
Staff clarified that current appointments expire Dec. 31 and agreed to bring a discussion item and suggested revised language to avoid recurrence of the timing problem. A staff representative said some committees will meet in the first two weeks of January and that carrying current appointments would preserve continuity while the council completes its appointments.
Next steps: Staff will prepare a report for the Dec. 16 meeting that includes recommended language for a temporary extension of appointments pending council action in January.
