Quincy ZBA continues greenhouse request at 210 Adams Street to Feb. 10, 2026, pending survey
Summary
Kevin Katz’s request to construct a 20x18 ft greenhouse over a koi pond at 210 Adams St. was continued after questions about whether the pond and proposed structure encroach on a 15‑foot utility/sewer easement; the board asked for a registered land survey and related documentation.

The Zoning Board of Appeals continued an application by Kevin Katz to construct a 20 by 18 foot greenhouse over an existing koi pond and patio at 210 Adams Street to Feb. 10, 2026.
Katz told the board the greenhouse—expected to be 10 feet at the peak and 6 feet on either side—was intended to protect koi from hawks, reduce debris and improve water quality. He said previous permits had been pulled for the pond and that the greenhouse would not extend substantially beyond the pond footprint.
Neighbors and DPW raised concerns that the proposed structure may encroach on a 15‑foot utility/sewer easement. The board asked for a registered land survey to plot the easement location precisely. One commenter also flagged potential light‑reflectance impacts from greenhouse materials and a claim that the pond was larger than originally permitted.
Because the ground is frozen and survey work would require thaw, the board set a continuance to Feb. 10, 2026 to allow the applicant time to provide a survey and for staff to verify easement and permitting history. The motion to extend the hearing carried by voice vote.
