Commission approves submission of $30,000 specialty-court grant for recovery court support

Megan Lewis, representing Riley County Community Corrections, asked the commission Dec. 15 to approve submission of a $30,000 grant application for the 2026 Kansas Specialty Court opportunity to support the county’s recovery court program.
Lewis told the board the grant would pay for staff training, drug testing supplies and services, defense attorney fees for Clay County drug court participants, client incentives, transportation and help with identity documents and housing; she said an updated risk/needs assessment was completed with Judge Lewisohn’s assistance and that the updated assessment would be submitted with the application. "This opportunity is a $30,000 grant," she said on the record.
A commissioner moved to approve the submittal, a second was received, and the board voted by voice to authorize Community Corrections to file the application. Lewis noted the application deadline required a short turnaround and thanked staff for compiling the materials.
