Columbia County Fire Rescue promotes 11 recruits, recognizes leaders at graduation ceremony

Columbia County Fire Rescue held a promotion ceremony that it described as the first such event in five years, honoring recruits and leaders who completed months of training and assumed new ranks. Unidentified Speaker said recruits completed seven months of intensive training, donned red uniforms, received helmets, and took the oath to become firefighters.

The department promoted 11 recruits to firefighter and formally recognized three deputy chiefs, one district captain and 12 lieutenants. Leaders also presented two leadership awards and recognized four members who earned public safety diver certifications, the speaker said.

Officials framed the event as more than a graduation: "this ceremony goes beyond completing basic training and achieving a new rank," the speaker said, stressing the ceremony highlights growth, leadership and sacrifice at every level.

With helmets on, certifications in hand and oaths taken, the newly promoted firefighters are scheduled to report to their first stations, where the department said they will apply their training to respond to calls across Columbia County.

The ceremony underscores the department's personnel refresh and training investments after a multi-year pause in public promotion events. No formal policy decisions or budget votes were recorded during the event.
