Yuba radio tower testing underway but FCC licensing and weather delay schedule

The county reported a progress update on the Yuba radio tower project during the Dec. 15 Executive & Finance Committee meeting: the tower stack is complete and main tower testing has begun, but FCC licensing delays and weather may push back system testing.
A county presenter said some FCC frequency permissions were delayed by a government shutdown, which slowed licensing clearance. "There were some frequencies we had to get permission to use and that was a long process... that's when we got our next check," the presenter said. Contracts for radio reprogramming and support have been issued; six have returned and four remain outstanding.
County staff said they aimed to start system testing the week of the meeting but that recent weather likely will cause delays; staff still expressed a goal of bringing the system live in June, though a board member cautioned that the first week of June "maybe not" the start date.
No formal votes were taken on the project at the Dec. 15 meeting; the update was informational, and staff said they will continue to report progress.
