Johnston said prior events, including a luau, an international festival and the eclipse, changed the department’s programming schedule in recent years, and the kickoff will be brought back after that pause. She told the board the department expects to invite local festival partners and that the city marketing staff will help with outreach.
Johnston asked for questions from board members and volunteers and noted staff are considering festival logistics such as vendor space and promotional co-op advertising conducted in partnership with downtown locations and Center Grove magazine.
The board thanked Johnston and the parks team for the year’s work. No formal board action was required during the presentation.
