San Juan commission approves first reading to annex small tract requested by developer

The San Juan City Commission on Monday approved the first reading of an ordinance that would annex a small tract submitted by Taysha Group LLC. Staff presented the petition and said required public hearings had been held in compliance with law. "This is a public hearing to consider the ordinance, pertaining to the voluntary annexation petition that was submitted by Taysha Group LLC," said Miss Monica Gomez, the city's intern director of finance, during the presentation.

The presiding officer opened the hearing at about 6:12 p.m., asked if anyone was for or against the proposal and, after no members of the public spoke, closed the hearing and called for a vote. A commissioner moved and another seconded the motion; a voice vote recorded "Aye" and the presiding officer declared the motion carried. The action recorded on the public record is the first reading of the annexation ordinance; a subsequent meeting will include the second reading and final action.

Why it matters: Annexation changes city boundaries and can affect future land use, taxes and service provision for the tract in question. Staff said the petition and public notice requirements were completed in accordance with applicable law.
