McLeod County board approves elevator for Murph Building and moves forward on truck and equipment purchases

Commissioner Wright moved to approve the elevator project at the estimated total of $522,093.38. Staff explained the elevator would be sited by the building’s front entrance to improve accessibility and that construction would begin in early 2026 with the elevator potentially operational in June or July 2026. "We've met over there a number of times... this provides by far the best traffic pattern and at the same time the most economical approach we could provide to get this elevator into that building," a project representative said.
On fleet renewal, staff requested purchase of two 2027 Mac tandem chassis from NOS Truck & Equipment at a state contract price of $345,163.52 (plus tax) to replace two aging 2006 Sterling trucks with high mileage and obsolete parts. The board also approved two equipment packages from Towmaster at a combined state contract price of $407,676 plus tax (each equipment package priced at $203,838 plus tax), citing parts obsolescence and fuel-economy considerations.
The board also authorized administration to proceed with bid letting on an acoustics improvement project for the new McLeod County Century Hall at an amount not to exceed $175,000, funded from ARPA allocations for fairgrounds and parks. Staff said {"Widseth"} acoustical studies recommend roughly 2,300–2,400 square feet of sound panels and related beam and wall features to reduce reverberation. Commissioners approved the bid process by voice vote.
These decisions are aimed at improving public access to county facilities and maintaining highway operations; specific delivery timelines and warranty/maintenance details will be handled through procurement and vendor schedules.
