The Abington Board of School Directors met Dec. 1, 2025, at the Administration Building to hold its annual reorganization. The board swore in four directors elected Nov. 4, 2025, and elected its leadership for the coming term.
Montgomery County's Board of Elections certified the Nov. 4 municipal election results, and each successful candidate took the oath of office. The board asked Mister Yacine Mohammed, Mister Brian Allen, Miss Angelique Frazier and Miss Adrienne Fletcher to come forward and recite the oath, each saying, "I do solemnly swear and affirm" before board members exchanged congratulations.
In leadership votes, a board member nominated Mrs. Shamika Brown for president pro tempore; with no other nominations the board approved the nomination by voice vote and Ms. Shamika Brown was declared president pro tempore. Doctor Melissa Mowery was nominated and, after nominations closed, elected president in a roll call vote in which all voting members recorded "Aye." Following the vote she stated, "I take over from here." Shamika Brown nominated Mr. Yacine Mohammed for vice president; the board elected him by roll call vote with unanimous "Aye" responses.
The board announced that the meeting was being broadcast live on the Abington School District YouTube channel and that the recording would be posted on the district website and cable channel by Friday, Dec. 5, 2025. Officials repeated instructions for public comment participation by phone and in person and confirmed the phone number shown on screen (267-715-3717); the board confirmed there were no callers during the public comment periods.
Closing remarks focused on appreciation for public support and an intention to prioritize students and the district community over the next four years. With that, Dr. Melissa Mowery adjourned the brief reorganization meeting.
