Committee approves New Lenox equipment sales special use after adding conditions from the village

Will County’s Land Use & Development Committee approved ZC25109 on Dec. 5, a special‑use permit to allow light equipment sales and rentals at a 1.4‑acre site in the Cedar Industrial Park along Ford Drive in New Lenox Township.

Staff told the committee the site is currently improved with two buildings and previously operated vehicle‑repair and landscape businesses; staff found the proposed use compatible with neighboring industrial activities. The Village of New Lenox sent recommended conditions after the staff report was published; committee members debated including those conditions and agreed to incorporate them with a modification: vehicles related to the light equipment sales and rental must be parked on a hard surface, while landscape trailers may be stored on asphalt chips in a designated area.

An applicant representative said full paving of the entire 1.4‑acre parcel was cost‑prohibitive but agreed to pavement where vehicles are displayed for sale and to the amended condition. After a brief discussion and a revised motion to incorporate New Lenox’s conditions as amended, the committee approved the special use and the modified conditions.

Next steps: staff will include the amended conditions in the permit and the matter will proceed to the county board for final action.
