The Abington Board of School Directors approved a slate of routine business items during its Dec. 9 meeting, including meeting minutes, personnel-related addenda, permits, a donor-funded courtyard gift agreement at Abington Senior High School, contract awards and depositories.
Mister Mohammed read the recommendation to approve minutes for board meetings on Nov. 11 and Nov. 25, 2025; the board approved the minutes by voice vote. Personnel addenda (addendum 7.1 and 7.1b) were presented and carried on a roll-call vote; the personnel packet included leaves of absence, compensation for curriculum projects, professional development and interpreter/translation services, and the retirement of Joseph Dutato after 27 years as the high school’s music teacher was acknowledged.
The board approved permit applications for buildings and grounds (addendum 8.1). One board member announced they would abstain from the permits vote due to a personal connection to a permit for the Abington Band Boosters; the roll-call as recorded in the transcript recorded ayes and the motion passed. The board approved a gift agreement with the Abington Educational Foundation to design, construct and maintain a courtyard in memory of Ash Carter (class of 1972); afterward the board authorized advertisement for bids for the project, which will be funded by donations from the class of 1972 and Friends of Ash. Barry Blumberg stood to be recognized representing Friends of Ash and Class of 1972.
The board approved two awards of contract (addendum 11.1): a contract for Bukes (an unemployment compensation facilitation system) and an environmental assessment for Abington Middle School necessary for the middle school project’s demolition planning. The board also authorized the district’s depositories (TD Bank NA; Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust; Truist Financial Corporation; US Bank; Wells Fargo NA; Wilmington Savings Fund Society) contingent on required collateral pledges. Confidential student matters reflected in addendum 13.0.1 (a student disciplinary adjudication and an education service agreement) were approved with attention to confidentiality.
Where recorded, votes were taken by roll call and are reflected as recorded in the meeting minutes; all motions described above were recorded in the transcript as passing.
