Will County mental‑health board outlines $5M grant cycle, application window in January

Tina Mackey, representing the Will County Community Mental Health Board, told the committee the NOFO was posted Dec. 9 and that applications open Jan. 2 and close Jan. 30. She said the board has reimbursed just over $1.6 million to date from a $5 million commitment for the 2025 grant cycle and expects scoring and awards through March with an April 14 close of the cycle.
Mackey described strategic priorities proposed for 2026—crisis supports and service gaps, intellectual and developmental disability programs, suicide prevention (including early intervention), workforce development and awareness campaigns. She said the board uses a reimbursement model and an independent consultant to score applications against objective criteria; applicants may earn up to approximately 74 points depending on scoring categories.
Mackey also said the board aims to prioritize successful, high‑performing grantees while preserving space for new applicants. She highlighted barriers to access—cost, availability and transportation—and said the board will emphasize awareness and logistics so residents can find services already available in the county. The committee asked for an aggregated vendor/recipient report at the end of the grant cycle and clarification on workforce‑development stipends and scoring criteria; Mackey agreed to provide links and materials.
