At the Dec. 8 pre‑council meeting a council member raised a merchant complaint about overflowing dumpsters and trash accumulating behind O'Henry's in the business district.
Speaker 7 said merchants had sent photos showing trash bags everywhere and described the situation as a potential nuisance that could attract rodents. Speaker 8 said code enforcement had inspected the location, found the dumpster emptied but that trash had been left on the ground by the hauler, and said staff will contact businesses and ask them to pick up the debris. "The dumpster guys... they won't get out and pick up the trash that's on the ground," Speaker 8 said, and staff added that if the problem persists the city could identify responsible parties and issue citations.
Council members discussed frequency of pickups and the possibility of coordinated pickup schedules during busy holiday periods to reduce overflows. Staff said the code enforcement official would follow up with the businesses the next day to resolve the immediate problem.
