Russell County School Board recognizes teacher and staff of the month, honors two students as hometown heroes

The Russell County School Board honored staff and students at its December meeting.
Miss McCoy assisted the board with recognitions. The board announced December’s teacher/employee nomination for David Gilmer, a welding instructor credited with supervising year-long student projects that produced signage for Honecker Town Park and a Route 80 entrance sign. “Mr. Gilmer has spent countless hours constructing letters, preparing land, digging, and pouring footers to create a custom Honecker sign,” a presenter said during the nomination.
The board also named Sage Cox as November’s support-staff employee of the month; the presenter noted Cox’s willingness to help across schedules and positive rapport with students and staff. The board voted to present plaques to two students who are battling cancer as hometown heroes — those plaques will be delivered by Mister Eaton.
Board members offered brief personal remarks praising the honorees and expressing gratitude for staff efforts that support students. The recognitions were presented before the business portion of the meeting and drew expressions of thanks from the board and recipients.
