Main Street merchants praise events, raise banner and lighting concerns; CRA presentation to commission slated for January

Main Street merchants and board members used the Nov. 12 Beachside Redevelopment Board meeting to recap recent events, request better continuity of holiday lighting and ask about banner permissions for Main Street event promotion.
An attendee representing Main Street said the recent light-up fest drew noticeably larger crowds than the previous year and thanked board staff for support. The speaker announced a Pinewood Cemetery cleanup scheduled for Jan. 11 and said volunteers and partner groups will help restore headstones.
The merchant also raised that decorative holiday lights and banners stop short of some park areas and the north side of the Esplanade, making displays appear disconnected. Board staff said banner placement and event signage typically come through event applications and that staff would check with Parks & Recreation and Public Works (David Waller was named) about restrictions and the process.
A board member summarized a redevelopment-area workshop with the city commission and said the board’s suggestions (including security and cleanliness measures and several "low-hanging fruit" items) were submitted to commissioners. Staff said CRA chairpersons or their designees will have an opportunity to present at the commission’s second meeting in January.
What happens next: Staff will follow up with Parks & Recreation and Public Works on banner and lighting possibilities; CRA chairs will prepare presentations for the commission in January. The board did not take any formal votes on event funding or lighting at the Nov. 12 meeting.
