The Village Board read a proclamation recognizing November 2025 as Dementia Friendly Awareness Month and called on residents to support persons living with dementia and their care partners.
Mary Ferguson, chair of Dementia Friendly Westmont, said the local program has operated five years and highlighted monthly memory cafes that average 16–18 attendees. She summarized program growth over time: 2019 — 4 programs, 34 attendees; 2022 — 11 programs, 125 attendees; 2023 — 15 programs, 228 attendees; 2024 — 23 programs, 302 attendees; 2025 YTD — 24 programs, 285 attendees. Ferguson said the group plans expanded outreach including work with restaurants and asked trustees for input on a 2026 scope of work.
The board thanked volunteers and recognized program partners including the Westmont Public Library and Westmont Lions.
