Middletown recognizes All‑New England soccer sophomore and reviews fall athletics, academic honors

The Middletown School District on Dec. 9 recognized an outstanding season for its fall athletic teams and honored sophomore Andrew Edwards for state and regional soccer distinctions.
Alicia De Jesus, the district’s director of athletics, told the Board of Education that nearly 405 students participated in fall sports under 33 coaches and highlighted competitive results including boys soccer’s run to the CIAC Class L quarterfinals and the football team’s 7–3 regular season and playoff berth. De Jesus said 60% of varsity student‑athletes achieved an 87.5 grade‑point average or higher in the first marking period and that 202 student athletes earned honors or high honors in that marking period.
De Jesus called Andrew Edwards to the podium to recognize individual achievements. “Andrew scored 24 goals including many game winners and added 8 assists,” she said, noting his selection as an All‑State and All‑New England player. Edwards thanked the board and described the honor as ‘‘a really great honor to win All‑New England as a sophomore,’’ and said he plans to keep focusing on discipline in the classroom and on the field.
Board members praised the athletic and academic outcomes and congratulated players and coaches. The district said Edwards will be formally honored at the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association All‑State banquet in January.
