The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee voted to direct staff to prepare an application for the League of American Bicyclists Community Sparks Grant, with the committee to review the application at its January meeting if time permits.
Leah and other staff said Bike Santa Fe previously applied for the grant to host a statewide bike summit; BPAC was asked to submit the application this year in the hope a city-led application would score better. The requested award amount would be $2,000 and the proposed summit date is May or June.
Chair read from an email by Romella describing the anticipated city-level collaboration: "If it becomes a city event, we would also have support from OED (Office of Economic Development), the communications division, and could partner with Santa Fe MPO, Bike Santa Fe, and others," the email said. The email noted that making the event a city event could make covering funding gaps easier.
The committee moved that staff prepare the Sparks Grant application and bring the application back to BPAC at the January meeting if time allows. A second was heard and the motion passed by roll-call vote; members voting yes included Member Farrell, Member Pilcher, Member Garcia, Member Schiff Miller, Member Gabriel and Member Wing.
Members discussed assigning one to three volunteers to review the draft application prior to submission if time permits; the application deadline was reported as January 27, which would allow the January meeting to consider the application before submission if timing aligns.
