Loveland council affirms board and commission appointments after failed postponement motion

The Loveland City Council debated whether to postpone consideration of multiple board, commission and representative appointments before ultimately affirming the mayor’s selections.
Council member Sherry Hamlin moved to postpone the votes until the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting, saying more time was needed to review applicants’ qualifications and to vet nominations properly. The motion to postpone failed on a 2–4 roll call.
After discussion, a separate motion to affirm the appointments carried 6–1, with Hamlin the sole vote in opposition. Several council members defended the mayor’s prerogative under the city charter to make nominations and said many nominees were experienced community volunteers whose terms were expiring. Others acknowledged the need for transparency and inclusivity in appointments but cited timing constraints that required filling vacancies before the new year.
The council’s vote affirming appointments will place those nominees on the city’s boards and commissions; staff noted many current appointments would otherwise expire at year end. Council recorded the roll‑call votes in the meeting minutes.
