Village board approves PUD amendment allowing 13,000‑sq‑ft freezer addition for Tasty Bridal

The village board approved an amendment to the planned unit development for 600 W. University Drive to allow a 13,000‑square‑foot freezer warehouse addition for the food producer Tasty Bridal.
Architect Tom Budzik explained the addition will provide frozen dough storage (mix, freeze, package and store), said water usage will be comparatively low (about 2,500–3,000 gallons a month) and noted staff, the design commission and the plan commission recommended approval with standard conditions. The addition requires a taller fire access lane and results in the removal of some parking to accommodate a fire lane; the fire department has approved the plan.
The requested zoning relief included a reduction in the east side setback (from 50 feet to about 27 feet) and a reduction in required parking (from 134 spaces to 82). Budzik said the applicant expects up to 75 employees per shift at full production, with about 30 production employees on site per shift and the remainder of office staff located at other facilities. Staff indicated parking is adequate across the property and that required conditions related to rooftop screening and floor‑plan clarifications had been addressed.
Trustees adopted the ordinance by roll call following the petitioner and staff presentations. Staff emphasized the project aligns with the comprehensive plan and that the design commission had unanimously approved the exterior treatment.
