Council briefed on Fire Station 1 change orders, liquidated damages and revised completion timing

Mister Miller (Speaker 8) explained the council needs to accept change orders 1 through 20 for Fire Station 1 and said all were built into the contingency allowance except for $11,416.83: “So that is the amount that this would take and elevate the cost of that project by.”
Speaker 8 added the city is assessing liquidated damages for late completion, noting the contractually required completion date was Sept. 1 and the city is collecting about $500 per day. When asked about turnover, Speaker 8 said contractors had suggested early December but the speaker would count on turnover around the first of the year.
Council did not vote at the work session; staff said a budget amendment will follow after the council approves the change orders.
