Resident appeals on Magruder Road fire, council honors longtime planning commissioner and notes hospital open house

Smithfield — During public comments at the Nov. 5 meeting, resident Mister Small presented photographs of 1502 Magruder Road after debris removal and said the masonry firebox and chimney were intentionally left to preserve the original footprint for rebuilding. He cited Chesapeake Bay overlay district rules that allow rebuilding in the same footprint after a casualty loss and thanked council for its patience; he said the cleanup required no town funds.
Earlier in the meeting the council read a resolution of appreciation honoring Bill Davidson for 13½ years of service on the planning commission. Davidson thanked the council and staff and announced he recently received a PET scan that “came back 100% all clear.”
Council members also recognized Katrina Johnson, president of the Lehi White Chamber of Commerce, noted collaboration between police and Smithfield High School on the homecoming parade, and publicized an open house at Riverside Smithfield Hospital on Dec. 7 with family-friendly activities.
What’s next: No formal action resulted from the Magruder Road comment; matter appears informational and Mr. Small said he was available to answer questions. The resolution for Bill Davidson was spread on the town’s permanent records.
