The Mahoning County Board of Commissioners introduced Jamal Lloyd as the new deputy clerk of the board and formally welcomed him to the role. Jamal told the board he began working in April in an administrative capacity and said he is ready to "do the best I can" in the new position. The appointment was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Commissioners also recognized Jimmy Fortunato on what the board described as his last meeting after 31 years with county government. Fortunato recounted building the county's purchasing processes, saying he had to develop a purchasing manual and implement cooperative purchasing arrangements with the state. "I had fun," Fortunato said, describing his time improving county purchasing, maintaining a record without audit findings and working on courthouse restoration and other projects. Commissioners thanked Fortunato for his long service and institutional knowledge.
The board noted Jamal will assume deputy clerk duties and commissioners expressed appreciation for Fortunato’s decades of institutional experience.
