Hughson City Council hears community updates and discusses e-bike safety initiative after recent collision

During the Oct. 13 meeting the Hughson City Council heard a series of administrative and council reports. Community Development said the city submitted a third revision of its housing element to the California Department of Housing and Community Development and that preliminary funding award notifications were received for local projects (Cobble's Corner and Country Villas). Parks and Recreation reported well-attended community events (skate night and movie nights) and promoted upcoming "Pumpkins on Main" activities and a program to open the community center for game nights in early 2026.
The director of finance said auditors will be on site in October and staff is preparing the midyear budget for presentation in January. The city manager summarized leadership and business outreach events.
Mayor Carr reported on meetings at the League of Cities conference and on efforts to seek grant funding for a proposed new fire station, noting grant packages and renderings are being prepared. The mayor also described a recent traffic collision on Sept. 30 where an 11-year-old on an electric bike sustained minor injuries; he said he is working with law enforcement on education programs for students and parents and intends to pursue public outreach to reduce future incidents.
No formal council action was taken on these informational items; the council adjourned to closed session to address items 10.1 and 9.2.
