Summary
Committee members reported all 52 vendor spots for St John Town’s holiday market are filled, outlined a full day of entertainment including choirs and Santa photos, and asked residents to volunteer and bring supplies; officials said capacity could expand if a planned amphitheater is completed.
The St John Economic Development Committee on Monday said organizers have filled all 52 vendor spaces for the town’s upcoming holiday market and outlined activities planned for the event, while asking for volunteers and supplies.
"We have officially filled all 52 spots," said Unidentified Speaker 2, a committee member leading the market effort, reporting that about 200 people had expressed interest and roughly 100 were seriously interested. The committee approved the Oct. 8 meeting minutes before discussing the market.
Organizers said the market this year will mirror last year’s layout, with igloos and a bouncy house, and that they are arranging entertainment and informal performances throughout the day. "Lake Central Choir Department will be caroling at 09:00," said Unidentified Speaker 3, adding that the Hanover Choir Department will perform around 10:00, Santa will be available for photos from 10 a.m. to noon, and a musician from Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.
Volunteers are being sought on a flexible basis rather than assigned shifts; Unidentified Speaker 2 said helpers will be asked to check for garbage, supervise the bouncy house and provide other general assistance when they are available. The committee also asked volunteers to bring firewood if they can; members noted some town fire pits are gas but additional wood could be useful.
Committee members discussed capacity and future growth. When asked whether completion of a proposed amphitheater would allow more spaces, Unidentified Speaker 2 said expansion is an explicit goal and described strong early demand: "I had about 50 applications within hours," the member said, adding that staff had started turning applicants away.
"Doubling the number of vendors doubles the revenue," Unidentified Speaker 2 said, framing expansion as a way to increase the event’s economic impact on local businesses and families. The committee described the current limit as a space constraint rather than lack of interest.
With no public comment, members moved to adjourn; a voice vote carried and the meeting ended. Unidentified Speaker 1 reminded members that committee terms end Dec. 31 and noted members must reapply to serve next year.
The committee did not set final volunteer schedules at the meeting and said details will be shared with members and volunteers by organizers as the event date approaches.
