Executive Director Scott presented Balfourne EMS's third‑quarter municipal update, reporting 1,535 emergency responses through Sept. 30 — roughly a 10% increase year‑over‑year. He said the percentage split between patient transports, lift assists and other call types remained similar to prior years but that call volume as a whole returned to pre‑COVID levels.
Scott reviewed fleet status and said the service acquired two used vans from a neighboring provider that ceased operations: a 2014 Ford Econoline (in good condition with about 75,000 miles versus the borough’s vehicle at ~145,000 miles) and a 2015 Ford Transit outfitted with a Stryker power load to reduce manual lifting risk. The acquisitions, he said, were below book value and will extend replacement timelines for older vehicles.
The service also plans to increase staffing in response to higher call volumes. Scott said he will provide a recalculation in the Dec. 31 report to reflect the unexpected vehicle changes and related accounting updates.
